My students need outdoor and indoor recess equipment such as a 3-in-1 Sports Arcade, a Ready, Set, Move Classroom Activity Set, ring toss, a bowling set, and more!
This year, I have a classroom full of 25 fabulous fourth graders who love to wiggle, move, and groove. Target is currently encouraging teachers to help students incorporate at least 60 minutes of activity into their day. I am always on the look out for ways to make my classroom the best it can be and to improve my teaching environment and I request student advice to make this possible!
Students were the inspiration for this project.
Reading, writing, math, science, social studies....oh my! Student minds need to be focused and in tune all day long. I asked my students and they thought that the best way to increase attention, focus, and stamina would be to infuse more movement during our day.
My Project
Last year, students stated lack of movement throughout our school day as a problem. My students want to incorporate 60 minutes, or more, of movement into every day. I asked my students what materials we would need to do this. My students responded with 3 ideas, "Outdoor recess equipment, indoor recess equipment, and materials to turn our classroom into a human-sized game board."
In order to infuse 60 minutes of movement into their day, students first requested outdoor recess play equipment and games that would encourage movement, collaboration and teamwork.
Students requested a bowling set, ring toss, and a 3-in-1 Sports Arcade. Students said, "Outdoor recess equipment will help us be more active outside."
The second thing students requested was indoor recess equipment. Students requested activity mats, activity beanbags and a beanbag board as well as comfy pillows to use as a frog jumping station. Students said, "Activity mats, beanbags, and pillows for the frog jumping station would help add exercise and movement into our recess time when we are stuck indoors due to cold or rain."
Lastly, students requested to turn our classroom into a human-sized game board. Students could roll a dice to determine which movement based activity (jumping jacks, push ups, etc...) would need to be completed before moving on to the next problem. Students said, "Our bodies could be the playing pieces and we could move around the spaces as we answer questions correctly. When you roll the dice it would tell us which exercises to do." The Lets Get Moving Activity Mats and Ready, Set, Move Classroom Activity Set could make my students dream a reality.
By helping fund this kid-inspired project, you will help students infuse our school day with 60 minutes of exercise, movement, and fun!
