Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. My students are all different types of learners and have various backgrounds. I have students who do not speak English, students with disabilities, and some students who are homeless.
I teach at a Title I school in the Bronx, New York where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive food and clothing from the school's charity drives. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
These materials will provide my students with knowledge on current events that is appropriate for their age. My students are always talking about current events, or headlines that they heard on the news, or see on the newspaper. Many times they are confused about certain events happening with the government and want to know more.
TIME for kids will give the students the information they need about current events and allow them to develop their own opinions instead of following their parents opinions.
If we get this subscription, we will read it in class everyday and have a discussion led by the students about what they read. Its important that students read information and create their own political identity, or opinions rather than following what the majority of people think without having any knowledge on the subject. I want the students to know that knowledge is power and with that they can make the best decisions for themselves. This is a skill they can apply to many life decisions they will have to make as they go through life.
