Informational Reading

My students need high interest reading and scholastic news and science magazines to enhance their learning in the classroom through current events

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Hammerle's classroom raised $175

My Students

This is my first year in public schools and my students and my first time in a 3rd grade classroom! Nonfiction reading is the hardest for my students to comprehend. In addition to this difficult task, rich and engaging informational text is hard to come by! Help us meet our comprehension goals!

My school building is old with no air conditioning and it is hot outside!

My students are diverse in culture, motivation, gender, and academic levels. They love to learn, but with the right materials it makes learning more engaging and fun for all! Many of my students barely speak English, or don't speak it at home.

My Project

My hope is that my students will be able to identify text features in order to gather information. I would like students to use these magazines to understand current events and to read a loud with a partner to help them with their comprehension, fluency and English language. I want these magazines to be used for fun. I may even use these magazines to teach science concepts. I want my students to take these home and share with their families!

My students will so engaged, they will forget about the lack of air conditioning and informational text resources.

They will be able to discuss orally current events and form opinions and make claims about certain topics and issues. I want my 3rd graders reading and talking about what their reading. These texts are high interest, beautifully colored, engaging and interactive! We currently have nothing like it in my classroom.
