Information + Inspiration Through Arts = True Learning!
My students need a SMART document camera and art supplies, including Crayola markers, crayons, colored pencils, and paper for writing and art projects.
"EVERYTHING YOU CAN IMAGINE IS REAL." [Pablo Picasso]
Using their imagination and flexing their creative muscles will turn into real world success for our children. Imagination is required for problem-solving on tests and in everyday situations.
Learning through the Arts is an important means of engaging students' critical thinking and creativity.
Our literacy-based curriculum provides a strong foundation for all Pre-K to 3rd Grade students.
We are a high need, New York City Public School in Queens, where nearly 60% of our students qualify for free / reduced lunch. Our school's high poverty classification has never stopped our students from doing their best. Our commitment to differentiated instruction supports students of all ability levels in every classroom. Our diverse community is quite international with almost 70% of students coming from homes where English is spoken as a second language. One-fifth of our students receive extra support for learning English. We also provide communication materials to Parents in 4 languages (English, Chinese, Spanish and Korean).
My Project
The Arts have been crunched in all public schools. We no longer have funding for an Art program, so we do our best to find other ways to integrate creativity into our daily curriculum. Paper, glue, crayons, colored pencils, markers and scissors are the very basic tools that every student should have to draw, color and fully express their ideas via visual arts. Our literacy-based curriculum helps students connect their learning in selected books with hands-on creation & artwork.
We are also challenged to integrate technology into daily lessons to maximize learning for our young students. Our digital natives utilize technology to enhance their reading & writing skill development. A SMART Document Camera would bring incredible flexibility. We could easily model & demonstrate concepts or share books & student work.
We will keep our students' creativity flowing through all content areas with these basic art supplies and document camera.
Every subject area will benefit: from daily writing workshop stories filled with colorful illustrations of their ideas to Science projects explained through artwork. I believe that critical-thinking and problem-solving will be inspired by daily creativity in our school. The new technology will be game-changing for us.
