Teacher Professional Development: I need to attend the iBooks Author course offered by Apple so that I can teach them how to create interactive books. <profdevpilot>
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"It is the writer who might catch the imagination of young people, and plant a seed that will flower and come to fruition." ~Isaac Asimov.
This quote rings nicely in my ear. My students are the tiny seeds that are developing into beautiful flowering writers.
I have 22 boisterous second grade students who come to school eager to learn, especially when it comes to technology.
Just utter the word t-e-c-h-n-o-l-o-g-y and my students are full of enthusiasm. It is as though I'm finally speaking their language. However, most of them do not have access to technology at home because they come from lower socio-economic households.
At our school, 99 percent of our students are English language learners and 97 percent qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students participate in after school support programs or care due to various family circumstances. Despite these factors, my students come to school every day ready to learn and engage in new learning.
My Project
The iBooks Author course will give me an opportunity to learn to create personalized books with templates and interactive widgets, learn to add video, audio, and accessible features, and share and publish a book. In return, I will apply the skills learned at the course and teach my students how they can turn narrative, informative, and/or persuasive pieces into personalized books that they can publish and share using iBooks Author, Pages, and Keynotes.
Attending Apple's iBooks Author course will allow me to grow professionally in an area that is much needed to support our 21st century learners.
My students will learn to take their basic technology skills and apply them in applications such as iBooks Author, Pages, and Keynotes, so that they create beautiful innovative and creative pieces that they will be proud to publish and share.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
