This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are middle schoolers at a Title I school in New York. My students come from diverse backgrounds and many from tough homes. They are overcoming social and emotional barriers each day to receive an education.

My students are active and enthusiastic.

They are motivated and eager to do well. They want to learn and are constantly seeking opportunities to take ownership of their learning.

Our school is in a high needs and high poverty area in which most children are on free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch programs. My students work hard despite the challenges they face. Many students stay after school, participate in after-school clubs and activities and are always striving to be, and do, better for themselves and for others.

My Project

Having a running club has been great for our students. Students enjoy getting to be physical after a day of classes. They love getting to be outdoors with their classmates and running races with each other.

These snacks will ensure that students have the energy to participate in our running club.

It will be great to be able to give them a snack before they run, or after running depending on their energy levels.

The exercise dice will allow for a change up and creation of work out stations when we have to bring our practice indoors due to inclement weather. The art project will allow students to work together and push themselves to not just see our running club as a place for physical activities but as one that practices mindfulness and teamwork through multiple means.
