Do you remember what it's like to have to read the same thing as everyone else in the class, no matter if it's too easy or too hard? Please help provide individualized reading instruction through technology!
The students in my gifted/high ability magnet classroom come from very diverse backgrounds, both ethnically and socio-economically.
A variety of languages are spoken in their homes. School is a great equalizer, but meeting their needs while being mandated to use certain texts and programs can be very challenging.
My Project
I am requesting 7 different Reading Instruction/Practice Software programs that target key reading comprehension skills such as identifying main ideas and supporting details, and making inferences. This will help me to provide individualized instruction for my students, especially when it comes to differentiating for my gifted learners. It is the goal of every teacher to take each student from where they are at to where they can be. This is very challenging given that we are expected to do this using the same textbook for every child. My students are very bright, but have a variety of needs - especially in reading. Some students are below grade level, especially in comprehension, while others are reading at very advanced levels. Providing them with technology (software) based reading programs that span a range of ability levels will engage and challenge them to become better readers.
