My Project
This year, students have been participating in an Indigenous Unit, where they get to choose a book for silent reading. The other parts of the unit are researching of Indigenous American images, understanding historical trauma, and synthesizing poems by Indigenous Americans.
It broke my heart this year when our library only had 1 copy of a book that 3 students wanted, and 2 students had to choose another book. It's not often that high school juniors are fighting over a book, and I want students to have access to all books of interest.
Having a variety of books by Indigenous authors fits the diverse needs of students.
