My Students
For many of my students this year will be their first encounter with the Regents exams needed to graduate high school in New York City. We need to prepare for the Living Environment Regents Exam by strengthening our vocabulary.
My students are entering their first year of high school.
This is the time for them to begin to learn proper study skills that will continue to help them in the future. They attend school in a very urban setting and all of them receive free breakfast and lunch as we are also a Title I school. While we are an inner-city public school we do everything we can to teach our students about the importance of conserving the environment around them.
My Project
My students need 400 packs of index cards, 200 book rings and pencils so they can create vocabulary rings to strengthen their study skills and prepare for their graduation tests. The resources will help my students in many ways. The index cards are what they will use to write down the vocabulary word, its definition, the definition in their own words as well as a picture that helps them to remember the word and its matching definition. They need the pencils to complete this task because no matter how hard I try we always seems to lose our pencils into a dark abyss of lost pencils. My students also need hole reinforcements for use with their index cards. When they use their vocabulary rings the holes in the index cards can become weak and sometimes even rip. The reinforcement stickers will allow my students continued use of their vocabulary cards.
This project is going to improve my classroom by boosting my students test taking confidence.
Not only will this project boost their confidence but it will also help them to develop much needed study skills that will help guide them through their education and towards their high school diplomas.
