My students need games and learning materials such as Sight Word Puzzles, Animal Jigsaw Puzzles and a Writing Magic Board to replace our old puzzles and games.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In elementary school, I loved playing with the puzzles and play-doh at school. I had plenty of games at home, but the activities seemed much more special when played with friends in my classroom. My students do not have many games at home, and school is their only chance to engage in these activities
My wonderful first graders are beautiful, inspiring and very active.
They live in an economically disadvantaged neighborhood in California. Over 90% of our students are on free or reduced lunch, and many do not have a lot of toys or books at home. Our students often come to school hungry because their parents had no money to feed them breakfast. Most teachers at our school keep graham crackers in our classrooms to feed students who did not get breakfast. My students often ask Santa for new shoes, or clothes for their siblings, when we make our Christmas lists. The games that I have for Independent Work Time are old and most of my puzzles are missing pieces. The students don't seem to mind and never complain, but it would be wonderful to have new things for them to play with.
My Project
I have chosen several puzzles and games that my first graders can use during Independent Work Time (IWT). IWT is when I work with groups of students while the rest of the class participates in independent activities. The games that I have selected include puzzles and games that will provide students with reading practice.
Your donation will have an enormous impact on my students.
They will not have to play with our old, broken games and puzzles that are missing pieces. It will help me to provide a safe and fun learning environment for my students.
