Help me give my students cardboard safety cutters which would allow all 620 students to cut their recycled carboard by themsleves for their STEAM projects. They could measure, plan, and problem solve, which increases their belief in themselves.
This is the second year for Thorpe Creek Elementary’s STEAM program. We have 620 students, including students with extra needs. All students come to STEAM each week. Every K-4th grade student in the building could increase their independence and test their unique ideas if they could cut their own cardboard into the size and shape they need. It would build hand strength in a digital world, face their fear of failure, and apply their math/measurement skills if I did not have to cut the cardboard for them. My wish is for my students to know they can problem solve if they would believe in themselves and keep trying.
