Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Many languages are spoken at my school. My 9-10 year olds have a thirst for knowledge and lots of energy. They come to school eager to learn something new each day.
They are really great scholars who want to be at school everyday and they inspire me to give my best to them each day.
I want to make sure I have all the things I need to make each day count.
My Project
I am requesting book boxes and Spanish biographies for our independent reading project.
This year I am focusing on giving my students choice and voice in our classroom library.
My personal goal is that my classroom library reflect the students in my diverse classroom. The Spanish biographies will be used during our biography unit to encourage my bilingual students to read in their first language so that they work towards coming bilingual and bi-literate.
The book boxes will be used to keep my students' free-choice books organized. They will hold their independent reading books and their reading journal so that I can conference easily with them to understand them better as a reader.
