This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This is their neighborhood school in the Philadelphia School District. My students are in a high poverty level. The school that I teach at is Title 1, which means many of my students' parents live under the poverty level. They are entitled to free lunch. Many of my students come from many countries from around the world. They come with a love to learn! My students are eager to lean and enjoy learning about the world around them. They need to have a structured environment with the tools and supplies to help them be successful their first or second year in the United States!
My Project
This will allow my students time to engage in independent reading during math time. Through their love of reading I want to engage using math books. Many of the topics offered in these engaging books will continue to allow them to flourish as avid readers.
This project will not only allow them to improve on math skills, but also allow them to practice their independent reading stamina.
My goal is to allow them to read independently or with a peer and enjoy the strategies used in math. I believe that they would enjoy this center time to read all about math!
