Independent Play Toys for Pre-K SPED

My Students

All my students are eager to learn, adorable and sweet. They are all under 5 years old and have unique disabilities. Many of my students struggle with social skills, speech, fine and gross motor. Having these outside toys will allow them to play together even if they are not talking to each other. Creating an environment where students can play together and build social skills is a key element in prepping these students for inclusion kindergarten. As their teacher, it is my job to ensure that I am doing everything I can to create a loving, safe, welcoming and academically appropriate learning environment for these students.

My Project

Teaching special education pre-k students has many challenges. All the students learn differently and are fascinated with a variety of things. These new math, science and fine motor toys will help my students learn by offering a variety of themes (ocean, farm, insets, rocks) which will allow them to learn while they play.

These new educational toys allow the students to play while learning important academic skills (ie, counting, shape recognition, adjectives and attributes, sorting, etc.).

In order for young learned to fully absorb new concepts (ie. counting, reading, letter recognition, etc.) they need to be interested and engaged. These toys can be played in pairs or individually. My students who struggle with socialization are able to play and learn with the help of these toys. Many of these educational toys can also be used to help students understand turn taking and sharing.

Students who learn while they are playing and unknowingly connect learning with fun. As a pre-k teacher it is one of my main goals to have all my students love school. They are more likely to engage in meaningful activities/learning when they are truly interested in the way the academics are being taught. With the help of the community I can continue to educate these young students with all the tools they need.
