Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Daily living skills are important for students to learn, especially at a young age. My students are amazing! They are in third and fourth grade. In this classroom, we have a variety of disabilities such as Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Down Syndrome and emotional disturbance.

Along with learning academics, my students are also needing to learn about life skills, including daily living, vocational, and social skills.

The resources purchased through this project will empower my students to be independent in their exploration of these skills. They will use these resources to further their understanding of life skills. The hygiene items like toothbrushes, combs, and brushes will be used daily to teach students the importance of staying healthy and clean. The kitchen items: cups, placemats, dish mat drying towels, and sponges will be used to teach students cooking skills, how to set a table, and wash dishes. Some other lessons we will be working on are vacuuming, doing laundry, folding towels and clothes, matching socks and so much more. The push vacuum will be a great tool in the classroom to teach students how to clean up when they make a mess.

These skills will help them in school and after their transition from school to adult life. Being independent helps students to gain confidence in themselves and their skills. Materials will help boost independence and their confidence in themselves.
