My Project

"My scholars are a delightful group of students residing in the beautiful Hilo Town on Hawai’i Island. Our community is steeped in rich history and diverse cultures, and within our classroom, we are blessed with bright, curious minds eager to explore the world around them. Grade 3 marks a pivotal stage in their development, as they begin to cultivate essential executive functioning skills crucial for their academic journey and future success. Additionally, this period is when they embark on the journey of navigating social interactions independently while learning to regulate their emotions. However, many students encounter challenges in these domains, which can significantly impact their academic achievements and overall well-being.

Our project endeavors to provide the necessary resources and activities to nurture independence and confidence through the development of executive functioning skills, alongside teaching self-regulation of emotions through mindfulness practices.

We are seeking support for acquiring executive functioning workbooks and organizational supplies such as storage baskets, label makers, and folders, which will aid students in learning to classify, categorize, and maintain order with their learning materials. Establishing healthy organizational habits not only benefits mental health but also fosters concentration, mental clarity, and assists students in identifying and managing their emotions effectively.

Through decluttering our learning spaces and incorporating mindfulness techniques like glitter jars, we aim to address students' holistic well-being. Recognizing that students' well-being is foundational to creating a supportive learning environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, we are committed to prioritizing their comprehensive development. It is our fervent hope that by prioritizing students' well-being, we can equip them with the skills necessary for long-term success and an enhanced quality of life."
