This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a low-income, high-poverty area. Many students are English Language Learners and need experience with the language. They may not have many opportunities at home after school or on weekends to practice their English skills.
All of the students at the school qualify for free lunches.
Many come to school hungry and tired because their families are concerned with affording day-to-day necessities. The school is a safe haven for many students. They need to create good working habits in order to succeed in the future!
My Project
Two grade levels (Kindergarten and first grade) in the same classroom means that students need to become independent learners and workers!
High engagement activities allow for students to learn on their own!
Activities that reinforce what they have learned and allow for practice will make permanent.
Using items such as journals with writing prompts and word games will allow students to apply what they have learned in a fun way! Math journals and games will allow for reinforcement of skills and improvement on math concepts! Learning to be independent will show students their capability in the classroom!
