My Students
Science is the subject that allows us to learn about the world around us. But what do you do when you don't have the necessary materials to learn and discover? My students at D. Elementary are so inquisitive and eager to learn about the world around them. This is even in the midst of living in, sometimes, levels of extreme poverty. As many of the school districts in our nation, as well as our own, one of the largest in the count--Houston Independent School District, faces budget cuts, we are left, as teachers, to find avenues that allow us to get the job done with very little.
It is my desire to have a class bustling with STEM investigations for my students to discover and explore.
Science is one of the most fulfilling and life-long subject areas that have a true impact on our lives. Our future doctors, mathematicians, and scientists are right here at D. Elementary in the heart of the 5th ward of Houston Texas. Please support us by purchasing science magazine subscriptions from Scholastic Magazine that will increase reading skills and science literacy at the same time :).
My Project
These materials will make in impact in my students' lives by increasing their science literacy. Scholars will increase their literacy in science and reading while having fun learning about concepts that apply to their everyday lives.
Learning science is a lifelong journey, and reading about it can be an exciting expedition in itself.
My students will enjoy using the science magazines as an added bonus to the hands-on activities that are presented in the class, as well as staying current with the science topics around the world. Scholastic magazines are a great addition to any class, and my students would benefit greatly from discovering the exciting news each month.
