This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This program represents a crucial step in addressing the mental health needs of 9th graders in an inner city high school. By investing in mental health education and support at this pivotal stage, we can empower students to manage their mental health effectively, build resilience, and foster a positive school environment. We appreciate your consideration of this proposal and look forward to the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the well-being of our students.

With your support, I hope the materials will provide 9th graders with comprehensive information about mental health, including signs and symptoms of common disorders, coping strategies, and available resources.

Reduce Stigma: Normalize conversations about mental health to reduce stigma and encourage students to seek help when needed.

Enhance Resilience: Equip students with practical tools and techniques to manage stress and maintain mental well-being.

Students would utilize the various SEL materials to better learn about their own mental health and they would use an iPad to conduct mental health check in under apps such as the Health app.

Depending on their answers, interventions/discourse would occur public or private if need be. Snacks will be available on a classroom wide basis. Initially, the project will be tailored for one class, and if it proves to be successful, I would like to expand it to more students.
