My Students
What can I say about my kiddos?
Well all of my students LEARN DIFFERENTLY!
Others commonly refer to it as learning disabilities/deficits. My students are ranging from 2nd grade to 5th grade. They come to my classroom to get different instruction, a quiet environment to take a test, a place to calm down, strategies to deal with adversity and some LOVE.
When they walk through the door they know they can expect a few things.
1. I love them
2. The work is rigorous and it will not be done for them
3. You will have manners and be respectful.
4. Mistakes will happen.. We will work together to problem-solve and get you the skills you are lacking.... BECAUSE YOU ALL ARE CAPABLE JUST AS MUCH AS ANYONE ELSE!
My Project
The population of students I teach are all children that have been identified with learning or behavioral deficits. Additionally, almost 80% have been diagnosed with at least one form of attention deficit. That is just one more thing to add to the list of why it is hard to learn right now. As the advocate for these students, I am happily taking the time out of the outrageous schedule and work load I have been delegated this year to plea on their behalf. 2017 study concluded 'Therapy ball chairs facilitated in-seat behavior and decreased autism related behavior of the students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in class.' Iran J Child Neurol. 2017 Winter; 11(1): 29–36. 2013 study done by Dana Kuhn and Sara Lewis concluded that 'Dynamic seating was shown to statistically significantly increase attention for 4th grade students and is an effective method to increase attention in the classroom.
This finding is consistent with a 2008 National Education Association article that found children need to move while performing a complicated mental task and “children, especially those with ADHD fidgeted more when a task required them to store and process information rather than just hold it.
This is why students are often restless while doing math or reading, but not while watching a movie.”
Science backs it but really I believe the proof is in the pudding. I saved and purchased three to see the impact. It changes the whole game. I am needing you to help me finish the remaining chairs for my classroom. Thank you in advance for your overwhelming generosity. -The kiddos of Mrs. L's class (&Mrs. L)
