For the 2022-2023 school year, I will have the privilege of working with students in kindergarten through fifth grade who have a variety of special needs. Many of my students are not yet verbal and struggle to communicate their wants and needs. Additionally, my students struggle with transitions, following the classroom routine, and expressing their emotions.
To support my students' behavior and communication needs, I would like to add the apps "Choice Works" and "GoTalk Now" to my classroom iPad.
The "Choice Works" app will help me create visual schedules with embedded timers that can travel with me and my students throughout the building. This will help to ensure that I am able to provide the visual supports my students need no matter where we are in the building. Additionally, unlike a paper visual schedule, "Choice Works" will allow me to make changes to schedules in the moment to help my students understand unexpected schedule changes.
The "GoTalk Now" app will help to provide a way for all of my students to communicate during classroom lessons and activities. I will be able to use the app to create visuals with audio that will help my students to answer questions, express wants, and needs, and communicate an understanding of lesson content.
