This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach physics and chemistry in a public school system grades 10-12. I teach at a Title I school in CA where my school is 100% free and reduced lunch and majority Latinx and lower-income. At the current time, our district is having us teach completely online.
My students are eager learners and are working with technology every day.
My Project
Because I teach high school chemistry and physics, there is a lot of math involved. When the pandemic first started, my assistant principal, came to my Zoom class to observe me and noticed how much I was struggling to write the math problems on the Zoom "whiteboard" because I was just using my finger and laptop trackpad.
Wanting to provide my students with the best education, I had to ask my assistant principal if he had an iPad for me to use; and thankfully, he has let me borrow his iPad for the entire distance learning experience.
An iPad Pro will help me properly model the math and science strategies necessary for all six of my science classes. Additionally, students will be able to utilize it as well to access the online whiteboard features, which makes step-by-step problems much easier.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
