My Students
My students are a diverse group of gifted and advanced learners. Our classroom is their first exposure to a full-time program designed to meet their unique learning needs. We move quickly through grade-level content and try to focus on specific areas of personal interest.
They have a wide variety of learning styles and interests, from Minecraft and coding to animals, dinosaurs, and paleontology.
To my great joy, all of them love to read! That doesn't mean, however, that they like to sit still.
My Project
We have a variety of spaces in the classroom, allowing us to spread out to work independently, in pairs, or small groups. However, many of my third graders are quite wiggly and tend to move around more than is conducive. I find that this kind of flexible seating increases their focus and keeps them in one spot for a longer period of time. I have noted greater attention from those students using the two wobbly cushions I purchased last year.
This increase in stamina is important because third grade is more cognitively demanding than second grade.
