Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
These young scholars at an urban magnet school with an environmental theme will develop their knowledge of reading, writing and social studies in my classroom. They are passionate individuals, who like to voice their opinions around current social and political issues.
These soon-to-be revolutionaries are striving in a situation where most would fail.
Our school is 100% free lunch and many of the students come from homes with limited resources. Addition, our school is in a sanctuary city, which regularly welcomes new learners into our classes.
My Project
These Chromebooks will increase student engagement. I have noticed in the past that with the access of technology my students were able to be more engaged and fully grasp the material with ease. Students that have been known to have behavioral issues (multiple suspensions) were able to use technology because they realize the privilege/opportunity they had in front of them. In turn, these students behaved amazingly and were able to be fully involved.
These Chromebooks will allow me to reach students that do not attend class frequently and reducing expulsion and behavior referrals by building meaningful relationships.
The middle school grades at our school have a high rate of referrals and behavioral suspensions. Reaching these students any way possible will help with their future success before it's too late.
