My students need resources like dictionaries and dry erase pens for individual use. In that way, they can learn and participate at their own pace.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. B's classroom raised $518

My Students
Our students come from similar economic backgrounds with over 90% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. Our school is one of the most unique schools in Brooklyn. Students are involved in service learning projects as part of our culture. As diverse as our students are culturally, with many from Caribbean, Middle-Eastern, Hispanic, and African backgrounds, they are diverse academically. Learning a new language can be very challenging, especially when one is already struggling to grasp with a new culture. Students come eager to participate, however, there are times when resources are limited and students are required to wait for others, in order to move ahead. Students should be able to move at their own pace and in doing so, we can acknowledge their differences.
My Project
Students currently share a few dictionaries in the classroom. Highly inadequate for such a group of diverse learners. Some students also feel unacknowledged at times when they raise their hands. Having a dictionary for each child will increase productivity in the classroom, as well as provide the necessary support for language deficiencies. Whiteboards are an easy way to check comprehension in the classroom, minus the confusion of whose hand was first raised. It also makes learning visible as the response is written and without the teacher having to circulate a possible tight room, those at the back can be reached in a manner of seconds.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
