My Project

Books are seen as a way to escape from reality and Kindergarten stories are no different. Kindergarten is where we hear stories of heroine knights who save princesses or sly foxes trying to trick pink pigs out of their houses. But where are the books that teach young students the differences about someone else's culture? Where are the books explaining to children that their skin color isn't wrong? Where are the books that begin to celebrate our differences by race, culture, or family?

In my classroom, I want all my students to feel accepted.

I want students embrace the differences of their peers, to learn from their cultures, to ask questions about something they don't know about. And the way to begin the road to acceptance is through books that show their perspective.
