Music is for everyone, and some need different tools to succeed! An our students are no different. They have a love for music that is unmatched. We often have to end class a little early to prepare them to leave. They love to sing and move and play. But, all of our students have different needs. Some students are sensitive to sound and need noise canceling headphones. Others need to sit on a stool rather than the floor to allow for easier mobility. Others, still, need adaptive instruments and movement opportunities for their body.
The items that are being asked for will allow all of my students to have full access in their music classroom.
This year, in particular, we noticed how many of our students needed noise canceling headphones to be able to fully participate in class. With two music classrooms, we are hoping to outfit both classrooms with noise canceling headphones.
We are also hoping to expand on our use of stools in the classroom to give students a choice as to where they sit in the classroom. We have students who are unable to sit on the floor, so the option to sit on a stool is ideal for them. We also use wobble cushions for our youngest students to allow them to move their bodies in a safe way while still participating in class.
Movement is essential to music. Parachutes and scarves are a wonderful way to have students move safely in the classroom. These tools also develop motor skills for the students. Our students love to move, and giving them new tools will be exciting!
