Inclusive Education: Concrete Tools for Diverse Thinkers

My Project

Many of the classes learners enter are inclusive in name, but not always inclusive in learning. While learners with and without disabilities share the same space, not all of them have access to materials that meet their learning needs. I am working to change that. Many of my learners benefit from hands-on materials that help them understand big ideas and progress to abstraction.

I am a special education teacher seeking hands-on, concrete materials that help struggling learners whether they receive special education services or not—truly understand math concepts.

The tools I am requesting for this project will support students in moving from concrete to abstract thinking at their own pace, helping them build confidence and deep understanding. As a Montessori elementary and adolescent trained educator I know how to give explicit instruction in sequence of lessons with these materials to support learners progress from where they are. I have added a mobile utility cart along with the materials for storage efficiency, as I support multiple classes and also work with small groups in library.

This project is not just for students with IEPs, it is for any learner who needs extra support to grasp foundational concepts. These materials will make learning more inclusive, meaningful, and accessible for everyone. With your support, my students will engage more actively, participate more confidently in inclusive classrooms, and gain the skills they need to thrive as independent learners.
