Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a wonderful group of PreK through 5th graders who are working so hard to be better communicators! I want to give them all the tools they need to meet their speech and language goals.
All of my students receive free lunch and many come from homes where their primary language is not English.
My Project
Many of my students utilize communication boards to express themselves in the classroom. Now they can access a life-size communication board on the playground! Play is so important for development, particularly in the area of communication. I want to give my students the ability to express themselves in all environments.
Studies have shown that AAC- Augmentative and Alternative Communication not only allows a non-verbal child to communicate, but also helps emerging communicators expand their language use.
It allows every child the chance to learn symbolic comprehension, expression, and emerging literacy.
