Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten can be a lot of students' first interactions with being around a number of other children with backgrounds differing from their own. Naturally, children are very curious and may not understand those differences or the best way to react to them.

Help me to nurture and instill in my students the character values that will help them succeed both in and out of the classroom.

My goal is to create a culturally relevant, safe place in which students not only feel included and confident in their differences, but others celebrate those differences as well.

My core classroom values:

Individuality (It's okay to be different)

Integrity (I am honest)

Perseverance (I work to reach my goals)

Growth Mindset (I want to grow and learn)

Respect (Treat people the way you want to be treated)

Compassion (Be loving & kind)

Teamwork (We can work together to achieve our goals)

I would like to request a number of books for my classroom that defines one of these character values for us to focus on each week at the beginning of the school year.

My Project

During the first week of school, I will introduce them to each of the core values of our classroom. Over a period of 7-8 weeks, we will focus on one of the values and ways that we can encompass this value in our classroom, school, and community.

At the end of each week, I will pick 2 students who I believe have embodied the value for the week.

Those students will then help me to choose 2 students the following week who embody the value the following week.

Throughout the year we will revisit a value/values each month to remind students of the ways that they should engage with others in our classroom. The books will also be in our class library for students reference if needed.
