This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at my school come from high poverty areas where even leaving the building is dangerous, no matter what time of day. The school is not too far away, but it is at least a train ride away and provides some distance from their home lives.

These students risk their own safety and come to school instead of staying home, locked behind their doors, because they want better lives.

It is my mission to arm them with the skills they need to attain and lead those better lives.

My Project

I have been trying to secure resources that encourage and teach inclusion, diversity, or antiracism in the classroom, specifically books by Janet Mock, for the longest time.

These books by Janet Mock will help students see their identities reflected in the curriculum.

Seeing yourself in the texts you read is vitally important min developing into a person who loves one's self.

We will be reading and discussing these books on a daily basis and we will be responding to reading prompts daily. Through the texts, and our responses to the texts, we will be able to explore who we are and understand that everyone deserves to be included. Diversity will be appreciated. Antiracism will be applauded. We will learn this all through the works of Janet Mock.
