My students need an iPad Mini 4 to discretely practice academic skills and IEP goals within the general education setting and a Flip Mino video camera to record their social and academic successes!
All of my students are members of a general education classroom, ranging from grades K-5. As a full-inclusion teacher for students with moderate to severe disabilities, my students are learning to self-advocate, persevere, and build deep and meaningful relationships with their peers everyday.
All means ALL.
Our school has built a beautiful school culture that embraces students and families of all ages, ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, and ability levels. The Universal Breakfast program provides a free nutritious breakfast for every child, every day! Through collaboration and a passion for education, we have turned every classroom into a safe and fruitful environment for all our students to blossom.
My Project
In a full-inclusion setting, whenever possible, specialized academic instruction is provided to students with IEP's within the general education setting. Often times, this involves working with students using resources and materials that are not common in their classroom or at their grade level. By including iPads in our inclusive classrooms, my students will be able to discretely work on modified work, out of grade-level curriculum, and IEP goals in the general education classroom in a non-stigmatizing way.
iPads will also allow my students to access the general education curriculum, participate in a variety of content areas throughout the day, develop their academic and self-confidence, and assist in facilitation of peer-to-peer interactions!
The Flip Mino video camera is the perfect size for me to carry from class to class to capture candid moments shared between classmates and record live data to play for the IEP team during their student-led IEP meetings! Students try their best when I tell them I am recording a short clip on my cell phone and beam with pride when they watch, and re-watch their hard work. I look forward to being able to record longer clips of students reading books, their written works, and social interactions.
Peer video modeling is a powerful learning tool and the iPads will allow the students to watch their peers modeling classroom rules, procedures, and social skills previously recorded by the Flip Mino video camera.
I am hoping Chevron will Fuel my School to help level the learning field for my students and provide them the opportunity to share their academic and social successes outside of the classroom.
