My Students
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, present different level of interest, abilities and interest with learning a new language. Together, we work on learning about each other, sharing perspectives and enriching our lives with what each of us bring to the classroom.
They experience first hand what it means coming from a minority in their daily life.
They are eager to talk about their experience and share their perspective in the classroom.
My Project
We are requesting books that will support conversations exploring diversity, immigration and same sex relationships. These books will support the growth of our classroom library. This expansion include titles dealing with immigration (Un Voyage Difficile), with gay teenagers (Julio, Les Trois Amis) or exclusion (Qui A Tué Cécile?).
My students crave a safe space for talking about these issues with adults and their peers.
Using stories for discussing these topics allows students to use the characters for sharing their perspectives and exploring others perspectives.
We will use these books in the classroom either during silent reading at the beginning of the class or as story telling time. We will also use them for grafted writing, where students can write their own ending to the story.
