This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The best and easiest way to describe my students is that they are survivors. My class is a dual language, prekindergarten classroom. I am charged with teaching them Spanish, language arts and math. I have two classes, each consisting of fifty highly motivated and fully charged four-year-olds.
My children and their families were hit hard by Hurricane Harvey.
Many of my families had to be evacuated and our school sustained a lot of damage. We taught half of the last school year at relocation site.
We do not want to burden our parents for any type of extra supply after what they went through. We are happy to be back at our school, but we need some materials to replace what we lost during the hurricane. We hope these items would help our new students adjust to the huge changes in their little lives.
My Project
I have a treasure chest in my classroom that I use daily to motivate my kids. If they identify their name or even count to 20, they love hearing me say, "Good job! Go get yourself a prize out of the treasure chest!"
They are so motivated, but every year we need to restock the prizes.
The pencils, stickers, cars, bubbles, colors, stamps, coloring books, colors, rings, bracelets, and prize assortment boxes will all be used throughout the year to get my kids excited and encourage them to make their teacher and family proud. My students would earn these everyday prizes for coming to school, for writing their name, or any other small goal they reach! The bigger items like the glow rings, bubble wands, mini bean bag animals, sunglasses, bags, princess play sets, and Play-Doh play packs will be given to the kids during the holidays and special events.
Can you imagine the joy in your child if he came home from school excited after winning a prize for their efforts?
That is what this project would do for the children in my classroom. They would have gifts and prizes all year round to motivate them at school.
