Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a New York City Department of Education teacher in the Bronx, I have witnessed my students of all ages, year after year, facing several obstacles that occur both in and out of the school environment. Even though they are faced with many obstacles at such an early age, my students try their best to overcome their hardships with a positive mindset. They arrive at school every morning with motivation and eagerness. They then leave with a strong sense of gratitude because of the education and opportunity that they have received.
I work in a large, Title I school with a very high population of either low income-high poverty residents or English Language Learners.
In the majority of cases, it is both. It is my goal to uplift my students in several aspects, which include their mental, emotional, social, and academic state.
My Project
I am asking for a variety of gift cards to help keep my remote students motivated and power through online learning this year. Each week I will hold a drawing. Students will earn entries through completing work, attending live lessons, attending tutoring sessions and more. The more often they participate, the more likely they are to win!
Many of our students struggled with online learning in the spring and this fall.
The majority of my students do not come from a home where a parent is pushing them to complete their work. In fact, many of our parents are at work during the day so the accountability is on my students to login and gets their work done. A gift card can go along way in motivating students. Thank you in advance for supporting my scholars.
