I often provide my classroom during my planning period to students and teachers that need special attention. They often come for tests and classwork without enough graphing calculators for each student to work independently. These students want to learn and need extra help.
The EC department specializes in helping students with personalized education plans.
These students need smaller class sizes and sometimes an education specialist. Since space is tight in our school, I invite the EC teachers to bring their students to my classroom during my planning period. These students often need to share calculators because there is not enough of this technology for every student in the school during these pull out sessions. These are good kids: good behavior and WANT to learn. This small segment has some kind of limitation that slows their educational experience in large class sizes. I watch the EC teachers work with these students and have seen growth in this setting.
My Project
These calculators will help this group of 15 students by making a step towards 1 on 1 access to personal technology. The curriculum is written around such graphing calculators. Students will be able to do independent seat work and progress at a pace they are comfortable with these graphing calculators. Making 1 to 1 access to personal technology will also equip this segment of students to be career and college ready.
All too often, the same type students gets the very best.
Having access to 1 to 1 personal technology such as these graphing calculators will enhance the educational experience for these students. It will equip them to be one step closer to be career and college ready.
