Help me give my students the opportunity to learn about someone who, like them, must make tough decisions about his future and leave the comfort of all that he knows.
Students in my English 12 course come from various backgrounds, though we live in a small town. While many have a shared experience of small-town and rural life, similar to the main characters in the novel In the Wild Light, they have diverse backgrounds due to family structures, beliefs, socioeconomic status, and expectations. Because they are seniors who will be leaving high school and perhaps this community after graduation, it is essential that they read novels that portray real life in a contemporary setting.
The novel In the Wild Light portrays a teenager's life in a rural setting who must choose between what he knows and the opportunity for a better life.
Suppose this novel is made available to my seniors. In that case, they will be able to read a story that is easy to relate to but contains many literary elements and excellent writing.
