Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year, I am very fortunate to teach a class of twenty-one, amazing students in a combo second and third grade. Our students attend an inner-city, Title I, French Dual Language school. They come from a variety of beautiful ethnic backgrounds and bring much of their culture with them. Many of them also come from homes with limited resources.
Our students are unique because they come from bilingual homes and are currently learning a third language.
They spend half of their instructional day learning in English and the other half learning in French.
We have entirely designed the curriculum around a project based learning approach, mainly focusing on sciences (in both languages), hoping to arouse students' curiosity and interest for the world around them.
My Project
During the first semester, students will be learning all about the fascinating phenomenas of weather and climate.
Students will investigate the weather daily by recording the temperature, the wind or the rain.
After their ongoing investigation all along the semester, students will have the opportunity to become real meteorologists and to present the national weather for their final project in both French and English, to their classmates and parents.
The materials you will help fund in this project will not only be fun for students to use, it will also help them to make sense of the weather and climate through their own daily scientific experiments.
