My Students
As the only public K-2 school in my community of approximately 18,000, I see almost 600 students over the course of a week. This creates a diverse mix of rural and urban students. As a Title I school, we have a very large population that is on Free and/or Reduced Lunches. We also have a growing population of English Language Learners.
Art is one place these students can feel successful; Art is universal...across any age, race, culture, and economic background.
In 2020 so many things in school have to be different, but in Art, we can still have fun while learning. It is more important than ever to make Art a fun place to learn and explore new ideas. Art creates a safe place for students to express themselves.
My Project
I work to differentiate and individualized instruction so that each child feels successful while still being challenged to develop their skills. For students who are visual learners or story-driven are supported by the addition of literature into an art lesson.
Art can promote and support literacy.
Art and visual imagery are a natural bridge to literacy. Books can reinforce ideas and concepts that students are learning about in art in a new and relevant way that kids can engage with on their own.
With the books donated by DonorsChoose, my students will discover how books can become a gateway to lifelong learning.
