Thank you for taking time to read my request. I am a second grade teacher at a school on Chicago's Inner-City South Side.
As a teacher who exposes her students to literature on a daily basis, I am constantly getting the same request from my students. "Can I read that book you read to us?" The only problem is displaying the these books so that they are accessible to my students. In my classroom, space is very limited, and I often run out of room on my chalkboard ledge.
When they are able to re-read books that I have read to them not only does it foster a genuine love for reading, but they are able to practice reading skills on familiar text. My classroom is often the only place my students get practice reading books they love (or any books at all). So it is very important that they are able to assess books easily and often.
I am in desperate need of a book display case. This book case will enable my kids to see their favorite read-aloud book. Furthermore, they will be able to assess these books during independent reading time and literacy center time without having to look through a bin or bins of books. The book case will store up to about 15 books. This means I can store read-aloud books I read over a month's period!! Kids can read and reread their favorite books all month long!!
