My Students
Each of my students comes with a unique set of baggage that may include academic deficiencies, social challenges, economic disadvantages, language acquisition and emotional struggles, but they do not let that define who they are. Everyday, they amaze me with their determination and perseverance. They are eager to learn and ready to tackle the world.
Our classroom culture is built around embracing these unique experiences.
We learn acceptance through character building, collaboration, learning to trust others, and compassion as part of our daily work.
My Project
The biggest hurdle first graders face is the ability to be organized. They are young and have difficulty keeping track of the items that are used daily. Proving them a pencil box to place writing pencils, erasers, color pencils, and crayons is the first step. Having their own pencil sharpener helps to create independence. Highlighters are a great resource to find text evidence while reading, which they can also keep in their pencil box. Lastly, the badge helps provide them a way to access their QR code easily. This frees their mind for learning.
