My project needs plastic binding spines, card stock paper, and colored paper; printer ink to print student writing creations, and cork boards on which to display student work throughout the year.
Hello! I teach English to 10th grade students at a Title 1 school in Florida.
Only three weeks into the school year, I note that my students are very creative writers. Throughout the school year, my students will be writing essays, poetry, and stories. Rather than keeping their work in folders, unappreciated and later casually discarded, I would like to showcase each student's best work in a bound book. I would also like to be able to display their work on bulletin boards in my classroom. My classroom has a bare wall on which I cannot pin or tape student work, lest I damage it.
Students take pride in what they do and seeing their work displayed on the bulletin boards will only encourage them to write more. For their hard work, I would like to present each student with a book of their best work to keep and to share with family and friends.
Our school has a binding machine. However, paper and binding spirals are necessary to make the books. Since many students do not have access to printers, they will be allowed to print their work on my printer.
This project will encourage creativity in writing and with your support, we may be nurturing future Pulitzer Prize awardees!
