My 11th grade students are preparing to take on the world. In order to support them with their academic growth, I want them to master note-taking skills to support them not just in English class, but in the rest of their academics. A high-quality document camera will allow me to model note-taking in real time, showing students how strong readers capture important information from a text and simplify it into the main idea. This document camera will also allow me to model annotating a text in front of students, including how I choose what to highlight and how to make effective notes in the margins of a text.
The document camera and class set of notebooks will help my students gain the kind of transferrable skills that will support them as they continue in their last two years of high school.
My students are incredibly resilient, but they have not always had the kind of support and resources. As their teacher, I know they can be successful if they have the opportunity to build real-world skills they can carry with them. My hope is that students gain confidence in taking notes and they're able to use their notes as a resource to support their further learning.
