My students need big books to help with language and literacy skills.

My Students
I am a kindergarten teacher of 12 fun loving and enthusiastic students. They come in each morning eager to learn, full of questions and ready to read. I have a small reading center that the students love to go to after they complete their work. Only two are allowed go, and you better believe they fuss with each other to get there. They can't wait to grab a book and sit in a magical Tinker Bell sofa chair.
Most of my students come from a single-parent home and do not get the attention they need due to other siblings.
Home life is not consistent with school, and there is not adequate parent involvement.
My Project
Our school in Robeson County was hit really hard by Hurricane Matthew. Each classroom had at least 3 feet of water, and all items on the floor were damaged which included our big books. The picture that I inserted shows how all of my damaged items were discarded and thrown out of my classroom door. All of my big books were gone.
Helping us to fund these big books will not only increase and develop vocabulary, but foster a lifelong love of books and reading.
Reading aloud to young children, particularly in an engaging manner, promotes emerging literacy and language development. Students love the big books and are able to see them better than the small books.
Reading aloud is the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success.
