My students need 12 Kindle Fires to make their learning more interactive.

My Students
My 5th grade classroom is full of explorers. My "campers," as I like to call them, are so curious for knowledge and new experiences. They all hail from Dallas, Texas but bring their diverse perspectives, socioeconomic backgrounds and unique talents to the classroom.
My students are avid readers, thinkers, future Dallas Cowboys players, mathematicians, and writers (one published her very own novel!).
Above all, they are bright kids who crave creativity and new experiences in their learning, which I seek to provide to them to the best of my ability.
My Project
I truly believe that technology is a key tool for today's learners. In my classroom, my students embrace our theme of "exploring," but with only 4 functioning computers in the classroom, they are limited in terms of how much they get to utilize technology to foster discovery.
Kindle Fires could allow my students' exploration to meet new heights, especially when it comes to exposing them to new concepts such as financial literacy.
Financial literacy is one of the last standards covered in 5th grade before the STAAR test and it too often gets brushed off and taught too quickly, despite the fact that financial literacy is a skill that scholars need to carry through life. The addition of Kindle Fires to our classroom can make our financial literacy unit more meaningful and interactive.
One particular idea I have is to teach them about budgeting by having our class "camps" (groups of 4 students) keep track of their "scholar dollars" or reward points on excel. Each camp would be working to figure out what they could spend their scholar dollars on by the end of the year.
