I am a Media Coordinator in a rural community in a southeastern part of the state. We have 51% free lunch and 6% Limited English students. We are presently at an enrollment of 628 students with a projected increase to 800 in the next 2 years.
Our community is predominately economically challenged. Many of our students have no access to computers or video equipment outside of school. Our students are required to do projects each semester requiring the use of computers and cameras. Cameras are our greatest need.
We would like to request a digital camera that we can house in the media center and check out to our students to enable them to add pictures to their projects. At the present time our seniors are working on their Senior Project in literature, Allied Health students are researching possible careers in their field, and Interns (students working in the area in careers they are interested in) are putting together a portfolio.
We also have Club Med. This is a club that aids students that are preparing to attend college or trade school by introducing study aids for SAT and ACT, physical and virtual college tours, seminars on how to achieve goals, and guest motivational speakers. Club Med requires a portfolio from each participant.
We have one camera on hand. We need an additional camera for our students to use. It is important that our students be able to document visually the experiences referenced in the documents they turn-in. The more documentation used in portfolios and presentations the better the success for our students.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
