My students need a new class set of a favorite John Newbery Medal Award winning book called Miracles on Maple Hill. It won the award in 1957 for excellence in children's literature.

My Students

I teach fifth grade English Language Arts to 73 wonderful fifth-grade students. Each class is diverse socio-economically, and each has a range of needs and abilities. Our entire school district receives free breakfast and lunch through a federal grant.

Our class is in need of a replacement set of a heart-warming, fictional story called Miracles on Maple Hill.

This set of books have been used for the past 17 years, and they are falling apart.

Miracles on Maple Hill is a 1956 novel by Virginia Sorensen that won the 1957 Newbery Medal for excellence in American children's literature.

My Project

Miracles on Maple Hill won an award for excellence in children's literature in 1957, and I love to read it with the students in the spring time because it is unlike the current children's literature that is available today. It centers around family, friendship, helping others in need, and the art of making maple syrup the old-fashioned way.

After 17 years of using my current set of paperback books, it is time to replace the majority of them.

They have been pieced together and taped repeatedly, and it would be wonderful to have a new set to use for years to come.
