My Students
I teach 15-17 year olds with a variety of intellectual, physical, emotional and sensory impairments. Each student comes with their own set of challenges and strengths! My goal is to teach them how to use their amazing strengths to help them overcome any of the challenges they are faced with. I not only teach my students curriculum: How to read and write, how to do simple math, etc. but more importantly, I teach my students how to function and thrive in our every day world! My focus is on setting them up for an enriching and fulfilling life!
My students teach me so much more than I could ever teach them, so I hope to help them in continuing teaching others through their kindness, their spirit, and their love for learning and life!
My Project
While my list of materials needed are all over the place, I ensure you that each item serves its specific purpose! I have seen nothing more important than a well managed special education classroom. Being able to create that management, means I need an organized, clean, and functional classroom for all students at all ability levels! Along with that - with many of the behaviors of my students, comes many things getting ruined/used a lot quicker than they would be in a typical classroom! This is why being able to have things laminated, organized, and multiples of supplies is so important!
Next up is the essentials, daily life materials that my students often don't have access to or don't use unless they have the guidance and supports provided at school!
Supplies such as deodorant, toothbrushes, etc., on my list will aide me in teaching these kiddos essential life skills to succeed and to fit in socially! Anything and everything is so appreciated and helps me build my classroom just a little bit better!
