Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Creativity resides in all of us! My students have the potential to create amazing things when given the needed supplies.
I am privileged to teach 4th and 5th grade students with multiple disabilities in a self-contained classroom.
Our school is located in a low-income area with a majority of second language learners. My students are greatly challenged when attempting to access grade level curriculum. Many struggle to retain concepts and therefore perform far below grade level. While they are eager to learn new things, they need additional supports to access the core curriculum and meet grade level standards.
My Project
Our resources are dwindling and supplies are running out! I am requesting a bookbinding machine, plastic bindings, a writing center, stamp pads, markers, Velcro, and write/wipe plastic pockets to use for student-created books. With these materials, my students will be able to write their own stories, illustrate them, and then bind them into books.
Providing creative writing opportunities is important with reluctant writers. My students struggle to meet grade level standards in reading and writing and require additional resources to motivate them to attempt and complete tasks. With these materials, they will be able to explore their creative side and complete a book of their own! Not only will they write a story, but illustrate it using these art supplies. Many of my students love art and will be motivated by these resources.
Creating their own books will motivate my students to use writing to express themselves.
They will create a book from start to finish, telling their own stories. Having these materials will encourage them to use their imagination and complete written assignments. Thank you for helping my students become successful writers!
