My Students

The students at my school are an energetic and hardworking group of children. They enjoy coming to school, but school funding cuts over the years have impacted what schools can provide to individual classrooms.

I teach second grade in an urban neighborhood where all the students at school are eligible for free breakfast and free lunch.

Some students live below the poverty line and their families struggle to provide them with basic necessities needed to be successful in school. Despite these obstacles, our school has hard-working students, supportive families, and teachers and staff who strive to make our school a welcoming and inviting place. In addition, our school is one of the top-performing schools in the city.

My Project

I have been a teacher for more than twenty years. I use small groups in order to reach all my students' individualized needs. I also try to make sure I stay current with what practices work best with children and how that looks in the classroom. One thing I can do is utilize the resources I am requesting in this project. The books are written by well-known experts in the fields of literacy and math education.

These resources will help me become a more effective teacher of reading and math.

The materials will give me fresh ideas and new methods of teaching students. It will help me reach the students that are struggling and need the guidance to make improvements as well as the students who need to be further challenged beyond grade-level expectations.
